The wealth-transfer cliff

Most owners think they're sale-ready. Most aren't.

Over the next decade, more than $10 trillion in privately-held businesses will change hands as boomer-generation owners retire. The largest wealth transfer in business history — and most of those businesses won't sell.

Brokers reject more than 70% of inbound listings. The reasons aren't usually industry or size. It's customer concentration. It's owner dependence. It's undocumented operations. The same five drivers come up over and over.

Owners typically find out at the closing table — when a buyer's diligence team digs in and the multiple drops by 30 to 50%, or the deal collapses entirely. Two years of preparation could have closed the gap. But you have to know what to fix first.

The diligence questions a buyer presses on are predictable. The score is just packaging them up so you see them before the buyer does.

What the Vursu Score is

Five questions a seasoned broker would ask. Packaged for you.

The Vursu Score is a 0–10 sale-readiness indicator built on the five drivers buyers and brokers actually use. Revenue scale. Operating tenure. Owner hours. Customer concentration. Recurring revenue.

Two minutes in, you get your score, see how you compare to businesses in your revenue band — anchored to IBBA Market Pulse, BizBuySell Insight Report, and Value Builder System data — and learn the two biggest drivers holding your score back. With a specific suggestion for each.

It's not a valuation. It's a directional indicator of where your business sits today, what a buyer would press on, and the path to a higher multiple.

I thought I was ready to sell. The score put me at a 6.1 and showed me I was over-counting recurring revenue. Two months of work and I'm at a 7.4 — and a broker I'd been talking to actually returned my call.

What I needed wasn't another opinion. I needed the questions a buyer would actually ask, not what an advisor wants to sell me. The Vursu Score did that in two minutes.

We were planning to list in 2027. After seeing the score, we pushed it to 2028 and started fixing the things that would have cost us seven figures at the closing table.

I've spent the last decade building, operating, and selling small-to-mid-market businesses across services, e-commerce, and software. I've sat on the broker side and the seller side. I've watched smart owners leave money on the table because they didn't know what diligence would press on.

The Vursu Score is the back-of-the-envelope checklist I wish every owner had two years before they decided to sell. Built with Zach Linder. Methodology peer-reviewed against the Value Builder System. Cohort benchmarks recalibrated monthly from real submission data.

Common questions

Frequently asked

How long does it take?

Two minutes for the core five questions. An optional three-question bonus on operations adds another minute and gives you a more complete operational read.

What's the methodology?

Five core drivers plus an optional three-driver operations bonus, weighted against benchmarks from IBBA Market Pulse 2024, BizBuySell Insight Report Q3 2024, and the Value Builder System. Full methodology at /docs/vursu-score-methodology.

Is the score a valuation?

No. It is a directional sale-readiness indicator. Valuations require financials, customer data, and a discounted cash-flow analysis. The Vursu Score tells you where you stand on the operational side, which is where multiples are won or lost.

Will you spam me after I take it?

You will get one email with your score and the two biggest drivers to address. You can opt into a follow-up Signal Call. We do not sell your data.

What if my score is low?

That is the most useful result. A low score names the gap. Most low-band scores are 12 to 18 months of focused operating work away from a sale-ready business. The score tells you which 12 months matters most.

Who built this?

Trey Blazic and Zach Linder at Vursu Labs. Operators with hands-on M&A experience across services, e-commerce, and software. Built independently — Vursu Labs is not a brokerage.

What's a Signal Call?

A free 60-minute conversation where Trey walks you through your score, names the operating priorities, and — if you are 12+ months from exit — introduces you to the right advisor. No pitch.

What is the next step after I get my score?

Three options: sit with the score and address the two weak drivers on your own, book a Signal Call to walk through it, or re-take it in 90 days to see your trend line.
